Papers, 1812-1889 and n.d.

Correspondence from Hood to Frederick Oldfield Ward, Wilson Barrett, and Robert Balmanno, and to Hood from William Lennox. Some additional correspondents have not been identified. This collection also contains material concerning the Hood family, including letters addressed to Thomas Hood the Younger, letters by Jane Hood, and a letter to Charles Wentworth Dilke written jointly by Jane Hood and her husband Thomas Hood, the Elder. A series of letters and papers relate to the illness and death of Hood, subscription for a memorial and pension for his widow and children, and the death of Jane Hood. The collection also contains a broadside poem addressed to Thomas Hood, the Elder, as Editor of the NEW MONTHLY MAGAZINE, on the novels of Charles Dickens, as well as original sketches by Hood and bookplates.
